Growing Your Business: More Than Just Making Sales
Last month NW Quik Pull had the opportunity to attend FENCETECH 2022–the largest trade show in the Fence industry–boasting over 300 exhibitors and more than 7,000 attendees, sponsored by the American Fence Association. Jam-packed with education sessions, professional development opportunities and networking, FENCETECH 2022 also features trainings, sales tips, business and management tools, and so much more! FENCETECH was an excellent venue for NW Quik Pull to feature its signature product, which originally was invented specifically for the Fence Industry. I highly recommend attendance at this event for a variety of reasons, including building your business.
Community: NW Quik Pull With Mr Fence At FENCETECH 2022
Let’s rewind to December 2021 when I first reached out to Shawn King of Mr. Fence located in Evansville, Indiana, home of his fence company, fence tool sales and “Mr. Fence Academy”. I had been watching his videos on social channels and fencing groups we are both members of. Shawn had posted a video of a cumbersome hydraulic, pneumatic post puller someone fabricated for him at his Mr. Fence Tools shop.
I knew during our very first phone call that I was going to like working with Shawn. He immediately took the time to look at our website and watch our post puller video. He noted his admiration of our post puller design, and also confessed that he didn’t really want to get in the business of making a puller. Shawn decided to sell NW Quik Pull in his tool store to fill that post puller void in his tool lineup. (He continues to have great success selling our puller through his store).
Selling NW Quik Pull in his store isn’t what earned Shawn King our admiration. Rather, it was his readiness to invite us into his circle. Shawn was quick to invite NW Quik Pull to participate in his Mr. Fence booth at FENCETECH 2022. The Mr. Fence booth displayed industry tools and provided hands-on training sessions. While he and his team are definitely the experts in all things fence, and fence tools, I was invited to be the on-hand NW Quik Pull expert! I was honored to be able to showcase our signature product and teach people more about NW Quik Pull. Shawn’s team of experts, who are so professional and knowledgeable, were all eager to learn more about it as well!
Mr. Fence’s (and Mr. Fence Tools and Mr. Fence Academy) enjoys immense popularity. Coupled with their prime location on the trade show floor, there was always a continual flow of people through the booth, including representatives from many big name fence companies. Inviting us into his circle, Shawn provided NW Quik Pull with tremendous exposure! Shawn exemplifies the meaning of community.
Together We Are Better
Most impressively, it wasn’t just Shawn! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how so many of these fence companies support each other. It really is a big community, and there was really this beautiful sense of comradery among all of them. As an example, I observed a couple guys from one particular fence company bring over a couple of guys who were just starting out. They were introduced to Shawn and told that he had answers, the tools, and the schools to help them grow their young business. Instead of pushing the new guys out, they were brought into the community (just as NW Quik Pull was), and set up on solid footing to be able to grow and be successful in the industry. Shawn King has a saying, “Together we are better”. He lives that motto in his business, and it shows.
Another observation of community I witnessed benefited a man by the name of Jake. Attending the trade show with Jake was his 11 year old son, (also named Jake)–Adorable). Big Jake explained that his company was relatively new, and he was working hard to grow his business. With several requests for fence repair, Jake became very interested in NW Quik Pull. I really enjoyed educating Jake and Jake about our easy-to-use tool. Even Little Jake at his young age impressed with really great questions, and his keen understanding of how to tear down and build fences!
Here is where the story gets even better: It was while Little Jake was learning about other Mr. Fence tools that his father was talking with Shawn about getting signed up to attend the next Mr. Fence Academy that I overheard Shawn tell Big Jake to bring Little Jake along to the fence school free of charge! As you can imagine, both Jakes were ecstatic!
FENCETECH 2022 Networking: A Powerful Marketing Tool
Was FENCETECH 2022 a success for NW Quik Pull? You bet it was! Not only did we build new relationships with Mr. Fence and multiple other fence companies, we also were able to present our signature tool to the American Fence Association and further build our brand. Joining groups is great, but it’s not enough. Sharing, inviting, encouraging and teaching is how you truly grow. Though I already understood this, Shawn King embodied this. Since FENCETECH 2022, NW Quik Pull sales have increased because it got into the hands of the right people. That is the power of community!
